80/20 Basketball was established in February of 2009. The name derived from the concept for getting kids to understand how much practice is necessary in order to become a great player. We believe that at a youth level through the 9th grade 80% percent of a player's resources should go to practice and skill building.
Coach Winn built the core of 80/20 training after the Future Stars program founded in 1987.
The Future Stars program was a fundamental first program, which trained many kids throughout the greater San Diego area. The program has carried such names as the Original Hoopsters, Top Ten, and Team X prior to arriving at 80/20 basketball.Ours roots put us a one of the longest running and most successful programs in the history of San Diego youth basketball.
Many of our alumni have played collegiately and professionally, and we are proud of them. However, we have had many kids come through the program and not play college basketball, but enjoyed success in high school, and have gotten their college degrees.
We know that their time with us played a role in their lives, and we find great pride in knowing that the process of learning all the values in our program not just shapes them as basketball players, but as people.
